Biography, Dave Higginbotham

A brief history of Dave's love affair with the Rolling Block Rifle.
Today's Date --
We appreciate your interest
in our fine line of custom rifles based on the Remington Rolling Block pattern.
I had been shooting original muzzleloaders as well as
building my own for many years when I bought my first Remington Rolling Block rifle in
1968. It was an original .50-70 and needed a little work, but the action was tight and the
bore was good so I made it a shooter. Brass was not available at that time so I started
with .348 Winchester cases and fire-formed my own cartridges. Then, I cast several
different bullet configurations and weights and worked on the loads until I had an
amazingly accurate rifle. I was hooked on black powder cartridge rifle shooting and remain
dedicated to the sport.
Since that first .50-70, I have acquired, built,
rebuilt, modified, and shot both original and reproduction rolling blocks chambered in
38-55, 38-56, 40-65, 40-60-260 Marlin, 44-77, 45-70, 40-70, 50-90 and 50-140.
During the Nations Bicentennial in 1976, I built
two weapons typical of the type used during the Revolutionary War and presented them to
President Gerald R. Ford. In 1978, I helped organize the Texas Association of Buckskinners
and remain a senior board member. I wrote the foreword to Ken Grissoms book "Buckskins
and Black Powder" and hold a life membership in the American Mountain Men as well
as the National Rifle Association. I am also a charter founder of the NRA 2nd Amendment
Task Force.
I recently spent several months in Italy designing
firearms for Pedersoli Mfg. Co. This included an in-line muzzleloader based on the rolling
block action. I was interviewed by the Italian news network and appeared on international
TV as a representative for American black powder shooters.
I consider myself very fortunate to have successfully
combined the things I enjoy doing with my profession. Look through the catalog and the
enclosed photographs. I look forward to hearing from you with any questions. I can build
you a rifle you will be proud to own.
We are proud to announce that with the introduction of
our new American made actions, which are virtually identical to the originals, our Lone
Star Rifles are now 100% American made.
