by Tom Berwick Steve Garbe, a competitive shooter for years, came up with the formulation for his best selling SPG® bullet lubricant when he determined that you couldn't use the standard hard and soft lubes available on the market. As you all know, keeping the fouling soft, when shooting black powder, is critical to accuracy. For some reason, I have this image of Steve standing over a large cauldron, stirring his "secret" ingredients with a boat oar or some similar paddle, and reciting the incantation, "Keep the fouling soft, keep the fouling soft, ..." Steve won the 1999 N.R.A. BPCRS Championship at Raton, NM in one of the most stirring shootoofs in recent memory. Although the NRA could have handled the shoot-offs in a better manner, congratulations go to Steve and also Brian Chilson of Pennsylvania who Steve defeated in the shootoff.
